Valverde Energy's mission is to be a leader in the solar and energy industry, creating quality designs and installations, while supplying excellent customer service. Our emphasis is on long-term sustainability.

Larry Mapes
Owner, Founder, Lead Designer
larry@valverdeenergy.com

In addition to his seat on the board of Sustain Taos, Larry Mapes is also the current Taos Chapter President of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association. His experience with renewable energy systems started in California in the late 1970s, where he manufactured, tested and installed power control systems for stage lighting. Returning to New Mexico in the early 1980s, Mapes applied this experience to the building trades, specializing in the solar industry arising in the Taos area and initiating more than two decades of custom solar hot water systems design and construction.

From 2000-2002, Mapes worked as Solar Integration Project Manager for Solaria Corporation, a solar technology company with a focus on building a more efficient solar photo-voltaic module. Seeking greater design independence, in 2002 he founded Valverde Energy, a team of highly skilled and experienced tradespeople licensed for electrical, mechanical and general contracting with an emphasis on the design and construction of maximally efficient renewable energy systems for residences and institutional facilities.

Larry Mapes is a member of the Radiant Panel Association and the American Solar Energy Society, and holds a seat on the Solar Thermal Task Force formed by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) to establish a national certification program for installers. He has lobbied professionally and as a business owner in the New Mexico State Legislature for renewable energy incentives, and has recently begun teaching solar and energy efficiency applications as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico Taos Campus.

Anthonys interest in the plumbing field began in 1985, when he worked as a plumbers apprentice for a large local plumbing and mechanical company. He acquired his Journeyman Plumber and Gasfitter license in 1992, and in 1995, started his own plumbing and heating company. Anthony joined Valverde Energy in August of 2003 and now supervises our team of 8 tradespeople. He is also responsible for systems design and preparing written proposals for heating and plumbing systems. His years of experience have proven invaluable in the growth of Valverde Energy. He continues to attend numerous certification classes in order to keep informed on all of the newest mechanical and heating technologies available today.
